A person with physical challenges can’t interact with the world the same way as the able, but there’s no reason we can’t use tech to close that gap. Loro is an assistive robot that mounts to a wheelchair and offers its occupant the ability to see and interact with the people and things around them in powerful ways, just like a parrot to be your friendly companion on your shoulder. Loro will enhance physical abilities by empowering users with more than one way to interact with their environments and how they communicate with their loved ones.

NaTakallam

NaTakallam is an award-winning social enterprise that connects refugees and displaced persons to remote work opportunities in the language sector. To date, more than 130 displaced persons have self-generated $420,000 through remote translation jobs or by connecting with over 4,500 unique users, who sign up as individuals or through academic partnerships for language and cultural exchange. NaTakallam’s translation clients include the International Rescue Committee, Malala Fund, BuzzFeed, and the Danish Refugee Council.

OmniVis’s easy to use hardware device and consumable test kit attaches to a smartphone and reduces the detection process to 30 minutes, accurately and affordably. Data gathering and reporting tools provide insights over disease hotspots; enabling users to prevent outbreaks before they happen. Founded in 2017, OmniVis is focused on developing devices for use in biotechnology specifically in global health and biotherapeutics.

Phylomics’ analysis is highly predictive and can detect a growing number of cancers including breast, prostate, pancreatic, lung, ovarian, and colorectal.

The “Equity for Equity” model is designed to create explosive wealth gains for neighborhood residents, businesses, and capital providers. The team’s experience and reputation developing innovative business incubators in Richmond, affordable housing in Baltimore, and successful restaurant concepts in Philadelphia has attracted attention across the country. Southbanc helps solve the problem of minority wealth attrition from gentrification and disinvestment by providing existing residents a path to make real dollars from our investments. Creating sustainable wealth for neighborhoods equals higher yields and less risk for Southbanc’s investors.

Cohort 11

Doctory is a culturally competent platform creating access to quality healthcare for the underserved by providing a simple hotline number, where anyone from any part of Pakistan can call in and get connected to a doctor right away. If the patient needs to be seen by a doctor in person, she or he gets a referral to the right specialist. With 152 million cellular subscribers in Pakistan, Doctory is moving healthcare to people rather than people to healthcare.

Inobi is an innovative platform that combines software and hardware to harness the best of IoT to create a unique public transportation platform in Kyrgyzstan. Inobi offers passengers a fun way to plan their next trip, and public transport on buses becomes smart with the Inobi device, a Linux based minicomputer with GPS, 4G/LTE, and Wi-Fi modem. Inobi is based in Kyrgyzstan and looking to expand in Central Asia and Middle East North Africa regions.

Kaaro Health was founded with the mission to deliver good health care to people regardless of where they live. In pursuing this mission, Kaaro Health deliberately targets underserved, rural, hard-to-reach populations in Uganda using their energy-autonomous clinic-in-a-box system through which doctors provide remote medical consultations to patients and mentorship to clinicians.

No Limit Generation is an engaging and field-accessible global child well-being platform that can be incorporated into any humanitarian intervention to better protect, support, and heal vulnerable and displaced children. The videos are developed in partnership with leading child well-being experts. They are trauma-informed, evidence-based, and translated into local contexts.

OxiWear is a wearable device that continuously monitors the user’s oxygen levels and alerts the wearer when their oxygen falls too low. When alerted, users can activate a personalized emergency plan with the press of a button on the device, ranging from calling 911 to sending automated text messages to their emergency contacts to save time in those critical moments.
