A Letter From Our
Co-Founder and CEO
In 2021, a thousand memes questioned whether the year seemed to last forever or pass in a blur. In a way at Halcyon we relate to both—a year that saw us adapt to everyday life in a pandemic was also the year Halcyon welcomed more fellows than ever before and grew our programming in a bold new direction. In total, 68 fellows representing 53 startup ventures participated in four fellowship programs. All four of those programs focused on different facets of our newly refined mission to accelerate the impact-driven future of business.
Unchanged, however, are the pillars that underpin that programming: space, community, and access. With a growing trend towards virtual and hybrid programming and events, our team rose to the challenge of rebalancing the Halcyon experience for fellows and community members alike, recognizing that virtual programming presents an opportunity to expand our reach, but that residency and in-person connection will always be an important ingredient in Halcyon’s so-called “secret sauce.”
In 2022 Halcyon will continue to experiment with the ingredients in that sauce as we conduct our first-ever in-region residency in Amman, Jordan, incorporate public programming, and continue to grow the funding vehicles that have given Halcyon a whole new way to drive impact-driven business forward. As the intersection of impact and business widens, we welcome more and more partners to the cause and continue our focus on ensuring founders from all backgrounds and ideas from everywhere in the world have an opportunity to grow
and scale their impact.
We step into 2022 with new leadership, having welcomed Martha Metz as Halcyon’s board chair effective October 1, 2021. Founder and Chair emeritus Dr. Sachiko Kuno remains a valued advisor, and I applaud her decision to solidify Halcyon’s future through this decision. Martha, a veteran of the business world with a passion for creating access for startups, has already proven an invaluable partner in managing the board and encouraging growth. Together we are defining an exciting vision for Halcyon’s future – one I look forward to sharing with all of you.
With gratitude,
Kate Goodall

A few years ago, Symone experienced a severe exercise-induced injury that coincided with her decision to completely forgo using over-the-counter pain medicine. However, when trying several different products that were meant for relief, she found they weren’t effective nor completely natural like their label claimed. With a background in corporate wellness, Symone has always leaned on corrective movement to improve her clients’ wellbeing but was shocked to discover 1 in 5 adults experience consistent pain that disrupts sleep, work, and mental well-being. Having always been a creator, Symone started researching the best plant ingredients that assist with various levels of pain and started formulating herbal products in her kitchen. She spent a year formulating the company’s first hero product and testing it out on peers before launching the company’s website and wholesale accounts.
